GB2PBL - Portland Bill Lighthouse
Reports |
PARC have been involved in the annual
International Lighthouse and Lightship Weekend on several previous
occasions, from Portland Bill Lighthouse, last year operating under the
call sign GB2PBL.
In recognition of the move to establish greater links between Lighthouses and Amateur Radio, and with the support of Trinity House, PARC decided to take the step of applying to make GB2PBL a permanent special event call sign. We were pleased to be granted this early in 2003. This means that GB2PBL may be activated at any time, not limited to a particular event, or with the usual one month maximum time-frame for such licences. Visiting amateurs may also operate the call by prior arrangement with Dave G1OCN, or Carol 2E1DQZ, who supervise tours of the Lighthouse during the summer season. A special QSL card is available for contacts made with GB2PBL. It is our hope that a permanent display will be set in in the Lighthouse visitors centre, to show interested members of the public what amateur radio is about. |
